Google status reports the wrong quota project
Source: Troubleshooting reference
Symptom. gcloud’s selected project differs from the project charged or checked for quota by a client library or Cloud MCP call.
Cause. gcloud config get-value project is the CLI resource default, while
ADC contains its own quota_project_id. Earlier auth status output incorrectly
labeled the CLI default as the ADC quota project. Environment overrides can
select another quota project or another credential file entirely.
Confirm. Run bash ~/dotfiles/install/auth.sh google-status. Compare
gcloud-project, adc-quota-project, and the override labels without dumping
the full credential JSON.
Fix. Update the checkout and use the corrected status command. Change ADC
only when the intended project is known, with
gcloud auth application-default set-quota-project YOUR_PROJECT_ID. Do not
change the CLI project merely to make the two labels agree. See
Gemini and Google APIs.
